AGM Abogados is delighted to announce the incorporation of María Royo Codesal as new Partner, where she will lead the firm’s Labour Law practice in Madrid. An outstanding labor lawyer, María brings over 15 years of experience in labour and business law.
Holding a law degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and a Master’s in Business Law from Centro de Estudios Garrigues, María has furthered her education with specialised courses at the UCM School of Legal Practice and Georgetown Law (Washington DC).
María Royo was part of the labour law department at Uría Menéndez, and subsequently held key in-house legal positions at renowned multinationals, including Procter & Gamble, Globalvia, and Gestamp Renewable Industries. This experience has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the legal needs of companies.
In 2022, María founded her own firm, Maroy Legal, which is now integrated into AGM Abogados, with the aim of expanding and developing the Labour Law department in the Madrid office.

María specialises in strategic advice to companies and start-ups, senior management, restructurings, litigation, and labour-related M&A. Her approach focuses on preventive and personalised advice, helping her clients to make decisions within a legal framework to avoid future conflicts.
“Good preventative advice fosters a company’s social harmony and creates a positive working environment, which is essential for both operational and business development.”In addition to her legal practice, María has taught Labour Law at Sagardoy Business School, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, as part of the Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession. She is an active member of several professional associations, including the Spanish Forum of Labour Lawyers (FORELAB), the International Bar Association (IBA), the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA), the International Employment Lawyers Association (IELA), and the National Association of Labour Lawyers (ASNALA), where she co-founded and coordinated the youth division between 2020 and 2022. María also collaborates with associations such as Women in a Legal World (WLW), Women Start-up Community, and the Quiero Trabajo Foundation.
Maria has been recognised as Lawyer of the Year in the Senior Management category in 2021 and 2022, and has been featured in the “Forty under 40” list in 2023. She was also named a “Rising Star” in 2024, standing out for her excellence and leadership in the legal field.
